Welcome! The Sweet Lab is a group of biologists at Arkansas State University researching the evolutionary history of host-symbiont interactions. What factors shape host-symbiont interactions over time? How do multiple groups of symbionts interact with a single group of hosts? What processes generate symbiont diversity? To address these and other questions, we integrate field, molecular lab, and bioinformatic approaches to compare patterns of phylogenetics, population genetics, and molecular evolution in symbionts and their hosts. We work with a variety of systems, although the core of our research focuses on parasites of birds and mitochondrial genomes in insects. Take a look at the research page for more details!
